Valves, Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach

These things pop up in the oddest places, empty fields and parking lots. They have the wonderful look of timeless design, with nuts and bolts and big honkin' wheels to turn them on and off.

And what's their purpose? Water?

They could be right out of some SF novel ... ;-)

I don't think water. My guess would be natural gas. They seem to go from brand new to corroded very quickly, so it must be something corrosive.

They look like huge crabs, hiding in the grass, watching us ... with their tentacle eyes.

You must have visited our beaches. That's exactly what they look like!
